Meet Dr. Scarborough

Terry Scarborough, M.D, FACS

Dr. Terry Scarborough attended the University of New Mexico, where he graduated with honors and a doctor of pharmacy (Pharm. D.). In 1993, he received his medical degree with honors from the University Of New Mexico School Of Medicine. Dr. Scarborough’s surgical residency was completed at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he continued training in laparoscopic surgery through a year-long fellowship there. During this fellowship, he authored numerous articles in the field of laparoscopic surgery.

After his surgical training in Houston was complete, Dr. Scarborough returned to Albuquerque where he joined New Mexico Surgical Associates, and in May of 2000, he performed New Mexico’s first laparoscopic kidney transplant. He joined the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2002 and while there, served as a fellowship director in laparoscopic surgery.

After being specifically trained in laparoscopic gastric bypass procedures and laparoscopic gastric banding, Dr. Scarborough began to perform laparoscopic bariatric surgeries in 2002. Dr. Scarborough and Dr. Sherman Yu joined forces to create Texas Laparoscopic Consultants, and opened their private practice in June 2008.

Professional Recognition

The Consumers Research Council recently named Dr. Scarborough as one of America’s Top Surgeons, and The Surgical Review Corporation recognizes Dr. Scarborough as a Center of Excellence Surgeon. He has successfully completed over 4,000 laparoscopic procedures, more than 1,000 of which were bariatric procedures. Dr. Scarborough trains surgeons all over the country in the proper completion of REALIZE® gastric banding procedures as a certified representative of the Ethicon Endosurgery Corporation. He is also a member in good standing of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
