Read Labels

March 21st, 2013

Don’t believe the marketing on the front of the box. Read the label, especially the ingredients! And avoid foods with added sugars. Common names to watch out for – anhydrous dextrose, brown sugar, confectioner’s powdered sugar, corn syrup, corn syrup solids, dextrose, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), honey, invert sugar, lactose, malt syrup, maple syrup, molasses, nectars (e.g., peach nectar, pear nectar), pancake syrup, raw sugar, sucrose, sugar, turbinado, white granulated sugar. Others include cane juice, evaporated corn sweetener, fruit juice concentrate, crystal dextrose, glucose, liquid fructose, sugar cane juice, and fruit nectar.

Save time and promote better health by purchasing foods that are not processed or that only have a few ingredients.
